On September 10, Korea University (KU), Chosun University (CU) and Wando County signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate on the vitalization of the marine healing industry.

The primary goal of the MOU is to establish a cooperation system between government offices and educational institutions for the development of regional and specialized industries such as that of marine healing. The three parties also hope to build an ideal environment for the exchange of knowledge and technology by conducting joint research on the marine healing industry and the marine bio-industry. In addition, the MOU aims to further the utilization plan for the KU Cheonghaejin Training Center and the CU Marine Bio Research Center, the two institutions that Wando County has selected as its marine healing district.

The President of KU, Chung Jin Taek expressed his enthusiasm for the MOU: ¡°it is very meaningful for universities and local governments to come together for the promotion of regional development.¡± The MOU indeed seems to promise a more sustainable future for South Korea¡¯s marine industry.
